Diana was saved in December 1959 at the age of 14 under the preaching of a Brazilian missionary, Bob Carlton. On February 21, 1960, she was Baptized along with Angie Huth (grandmother) and Linda Ausfahl (sister) at East side Baptist Church of Denver Colorado. She came to know Christ as her Life on Jan. 22, 1990.
In her Junior year of High School, Diana dedicated her life to the Lord to be in his service and accepted His call of whatever he wanted her to be. After graduating from Cherry Creek High School in June of 1963, Diana knew she was going to attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. She attended college for one year before returning to Colorado and marrying James Dean Long on July 11, 1964. Beautifully displayed for all to see at their wedding, was a black and turquoise sign that read the conviction of their hearts: “The Lord our God will we serve and His voice will obey” Joshua 24:24.
Diana and Jim returned to Baptist Bible College where Jim graduated in May of 1968. For 31 ½ years they served the Lord together either pastoring a church or teaching in a Christian School. They lived the rest of their married life serving the Lord in Florida for 5 years and then in Colorado where Diana remained until moving back to Florida in August of 2015. Diana was 50 years old when the Lord called Jim home. She remained a widow the rest of her life.
Diana was a Godly woman and a prayer warrior. She spent time with the Lord in devotions and praying for countless family and friends. During the last two years of her life she spent two years in Gainesville on the University of Florida campus serving out the vegetarian lunch and meeting anywhere from 800 to 1,500 students and professors a day. She knew so many people by name and would even pray with them while they waited in line for the meal. She often baked hundreds of cookies a week to handout to the students, homeless and hurting people.
Some of Diana’s favorite things were going to church, gospel songs, hymns, country music, visiting people, caring for the sick, soaking people’s feet, and two-step dancing.
Diana never met a stranger. She would talk to anyone and the conversation would quickly move toward the subject of knowing Jesus as Savior. Her greatest desire would be if anyone hearing or reading this today and is not saved, to accept Christ as your Savior. She wanted to take as many people as she possibly could to heaven with her. Although you may be sad for today, if you know Jesus you will see Diana again in Heaven.
Her favorite verses of scripture were:
Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee.”
II Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Joshua 24:24 “The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.”
