Sylvia Mae Noordewier

Sylvia Mae Noordewier passed away on March 8, 2017 at age 92.  She was born in Denver, Colorado on May 22, 1924.  She was the loving mother of four children, Byron Noordewier, B. Louise (Darwin) Niekerk, Edwin Ross (Julie) Noordewier, and Lisa Ann (Peter) Partain.  She was the beloved daughter of Louise Vos Volcklandt and Gerard “Jack” Volcklandt.

She is survived by her 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She grew up in Denver and graduated from South High School.  She married Edwin A. Noordewier on May 3, 1947.  She was a member of Third Christian Reformed Church.  She dedicated her life to raising and caring for her four children and families.  An exceptional typist, she worked as a word processor at University of Denver after her youngest daughter began school.  Later, she joined Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Company / Chevron Corporation where she spent the majority of her career.  As a self-taught computer specialist, she regularly studied new software programs and developing computer technology both for her career and as a hobby.  She was still actively using and enjoying her computer at age 92.

An avid sports fan, she followed many teams including the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rockies, the PGA Tour, and Northwestern College (Iowa) volleyball and basketball teams.  She enjoyed playing and listening to the piano.  She was a beautiful writer with precise penmanship.  She expressed her creativity through her wonderful needlepoint and cross-stitch creating pieces treasured by her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Dearly loved by her family and friends, she will be greatly missed.  A private memorial will be held.
