Welcome to the memorial page for

Evelyn A. Wentworth

June 19, 1938 ~ August 15, 2017 (age 79)

Our beloved Evelyn was born June 19th, 1938 in Coon Rapids Iowa. She grew up on the family farm with her older brother Donnie and younger sister Betty. She attended country school and worked hard at home and on the farm. When her mother passed away in 1952 she took on many more duties including teaching her mother's Sunday school class. After high school, she moved to Des Moines but truly wanted to see the mountains. In 1960, she set out to move to Colorado. Unfortunately, her '55 Ford broke down and she ended up in Tulsa, OK. She worked for an investment firm that managed accounts for Warren Spahn of the Boston Braves as well as Oral Roberts. While there she was awarded secretary of the month. In 1961, she was finally able to make her dream come true and moved to Denver. When she saw the mountains for the first time she had to pull over because she began to cry.  Her first job in Colorado was at the Coors Company in Golden then went to work for a little company called Xerox where she stayed for 25 years. While in Colorado she enjoyed skiing, fishing and concerts at Red Rocks.

In 1968, she purchased her dream car-a brand new red Camaro. That same year she met Alan Wentworth at a drag race. They quickly fell in love and were married November 29th, 1969. The following year the happy couple welcomed the birth of their daughter, Amy Jean. In 1972, they moved to Englewood and in 1975 they completed their family with the birth of Bret Arlen.

Evelyn enjoyed summer family trips to Iowa and Minnesota, (Paul Bunyan Land), playing games like Scrabble, Yahtzee, Pinochle, and Gin Rummy (her son’s favorite), and spending time in the outdoors and at the Grand Lake Cabin.  She was an avid bowler, competing regularly and even bowled a perfect game! Evelyn enjoyed having a career with Xerox, MCI, Becker CPA and most recently with the YMCA.  However, Evelyn always put her family first.  Frequently, she’d stay up past midnight working trying to finish up her day, or she would bring her work to the ski lodge while her son and his friends spent the day snowboarding. She allowed her kids to always express themselves and be filled with love.  Examples include allowing Bret to build a half-pipe in the backyard, and supporting Amy with her love for music and concerts. Evelyn truly lived a selfless life. Her home was always open to anyone who was in need especially children. Some of her proud accomplishments include starting a ministry for single moms, running a daycare out of her home, taking over the Englewood Soccer Association and making it a very successful program, and these don’t even include the hundreds of hearts she touched every day. She was an active member of St. John’s since 1961 where she volunteered and taught Sunday School.  Evelyn always supported and enjoyed her beloved Rockies and Broncos, sharing that passion with her family, especially grandkids.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her mother Amanda, (1952), father Julius, (1982).  Evelyn is survived by her husband Alan, daughter Amy, son Bret (Courtney), grandchildren Asa-12, Shayden-8, Korina-15, her brother Donald Pevestorf (Wife Jan), sister Beth Harmon and many nieces and nephews.
